Scope Emissions & Carbon Management
In demandCredible, methodology-led measurement of your Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions — and a practical path to reducing them. We help businesses understand their carbon footprint, set science-based targets, and disclose with confidence.
The challenge
Carbon measurement is getting harder to avoid
Customer requirements, investor questionnaires, supply chain due diligence, CDP disclosure requests, UK SECR obligations, and forthcoming CSRD requirements are all driving businesses to measure and report their emissions — often for the first time.
At the same time, greenwashing scrutiny has increased dramatically. Businesses making net-zero or carbon-neutral claims without credible underlying data are exposed to reputational, regulatory, and legal risk.
We help you get the measurement right — using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, DEFRA emission factors, and recognised boundary-setting methodologies — so your numbers are defensible and your commitments are credible.
Methodology
All carbon assessments follow:
- GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard
- DEFRA / UK Government conversion factors
- Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) guidance
- ISO 14064 principles
- CDP Technical Guidance (where applicable)
We document all calculation assumptions and data sources so your inventory is auditable and repeatable year-on-year.
Scope coverage
Scope 1, 2, and 3 — fully covered
We measure emissions across all three scopes, with the level of detail calibrated to your disclosure requirements, supply chain exposure, and available data.
Scope 1
Direct emissions
Emissions from sources owned or controlled by your organisation: combustion of fuels in boilers, furnaces, vehicles, and process equipment. Fugitive emissions from refrigerants and industrial gases. Process emissions from chemical reactions.
Scope 2
Energy indirect emissions
Emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heat, or cooling consumed by your organisation. Reported using both location-based and market-based methods in line with GHG Protocol guidance.
Scope 3
Value chain emissions
Emissions from your upstream and downstream value chain: purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, waste, logistics, use of sold products, and investments. Typically the largest source of emissions for most businesses.
Full service
From measurement to net zero
Our carbon management service takes you from initial measurement through to a credible net-zero strategy.
GHG inventory & carbon footprint
A full Scope 1, 2, and material Scope 3 emissions inventory for your base year, with documented methodology, data quality assessments, and an emissions summary report suitable for disclosure.
Carbon reduction strategy
Identification of material reduction opportunities across your emission sources, prioritised by impact and feasibility. Covers energy efficiency, fuel switching, renewable procurement, travel and logistics, and supply chain engagement.
Net-zero roadmap
A time-bound net-zero pathway with interim targets, milestones, and accountability. Aligned with SBTi criteria and UK Climate Change Act commitments. Includes guidance on residual emissions and credible carbon removal approaches.
SECR compliance
Support for Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) obligations for qualifying UK companies. Preparation of the required Directors' Report disclosure, including energy use, emissions, and intensity metrics.
CDP & ESG disclosure
Emissions data and narrative prepared for CDP Climate disclosure, TCFD-aligned reporting, and ESG questionnaire responses. See our CDP & ESG Reporting service for full detail.
Annual tracking & reporting
Ongoing annual emissions inventory updates, year-on-year performance tracking, and progress reporting against your reduction targets and net-zero roadmap milestones.
Who asks for this
Common drivers for carbon measurement
Customer requirements
Large customers increasingly require Scope 3 emissions data from their suppliers. We help you respond to supply chain questionnaires and CDP supply chain programme requests.
Investor & lender requirements
ESG due diligence from investors and green finance lenders requires credible emissions data and a demonstrable path to net zero. We build the data infrastructure you need.
SECR obligation
UK companies meeting the qualifying criteria under the Companies Act must report energy use and GHG emissions in their Directors' Report. We handle the calculation and disclosure.
Public sector contracts
UK PPN 06/21 and similar procurement requirements mean that suppliers tendering for large public contracts must have a carbon reduction plan in place. We can build one.
Net-zero commitments
If you've made a net-zero or carbon-neutral claim and need the substance to back it up, or are preparing to make one for the first time, we help you do it credibly.
CSRD preparation
The EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) extends mandatory climate and emissions reporting to many UK businesses operating in the EU. We help you prepare.
